Therapeutic Exercises AI Helps Me With

From turning poems into songs to reflecting through interviews

AI helps me be way more productive in my work, but I don’t think I’ve given it enough credit for the other things it’s helped me with such as self-reflection or creative expression.

So I’m going to go through a few examples of things I do more often than I’d care to admit.

My goal is to show you that AI can really help with anything. in your life through enhancing the experience of what it is you’re doing.

Poems to Songs

For the past few months I’ve started writing poems to let out memories, emotions, etc.

Not every day—usually just get hit with the feeling and I’ll write it out in one go.

I find it therapeutic to write out my thoughts and feelings through poems because it’s something different from always journaling exactly what is going on. I have more fun with the artistic expression I can put into the words.

So I write poems and thought that would be as far as I go with it.

But then I had an idea…

I would take my poems, and pop them into Suno as lyrics and see what I get.

And this unlocked a lot for me. I was able to hear the words I had written and feel more emotions through the music and the way the words were sung.

I’ve made this more of a regular practice now when I write poems.

It feels like it does the poems justice when I hear them in the song form.

And now I don’t have to spend as much time to hear something I wrote as a song.

And I’m not planning to publish these and go on your or anything, but it has helped me curate more songs with emotional meaning to me and allows me to tap into those emotions more.

If you write poetry, I’d love to see what you think about turning them into songs.

Self Inquiry With AI

Self-inquiry is a practice of deep introspection and questioning to gain greater self-understanding and awareness.

While traditionally done through only meditation or journaling, I've found some fun ways to enhance this practice using AI.

Emotional Inquiry

This area of reflection has become more interesting to me over the last year.

You hear a lot of people talk about “be the observer man” and “I am not my thoughts or emotions” (you can read this if you don’t know what I mean).

I agree with learning to recognize your awareness is different from your thoughts and emotions, but it does not mean you can shirk the emotional responsibility you have to yourself—to your body.

We get in our own heads so much and try to intellectualize everything.

But you know what we don’t do enough?

Just feel it. All of it.

You can do this by yourself, and I’ve found it helpful to prompt an AI chatbot to give me questions to inquire about my emotions.

It helps offload the thinking part of my mind more to the AI so I can focus on the feelings.

Life Reflection

Life reflection is another powerful tool in the AI-assisted self-inquiry toolkit.

Similar to emotional inquiry, it uses a prompt-based approach, but instead of focusing solely on emotions, it guides you through a broader exploration of your life experiences, decisions, and the lessons you've learned along the way.

This practice is incredibly valuable because it helps you tap into the wisdom you've gained through lived experience.

By reflecting on patterns you've observed throughout your life and in the world around you, you can better understand yourself and improve your decision-making process.

It's like having a conversation with your past self, examining questions like:

  • How did I make that decision?

  • Where was my intuition correct, and where did I listen to it?

  • Where was my intuition off, and what can I learn from that?

The beauty of using AI for life reflection is that it can help you identify connections and patterns that you might miss on your own.

“The Galactic Counsel Room”

I’ll call this “The Galactic Council Method” (GCM) for the rest of the article.

GCM is a unique approach to self-inquiry and personal growth that leverages AI technology, specifically Claude's project feature.

While it requires a premium subscription, this method offers a powerful way to synthesize various aspects of your life for deep reflection and insight.

Here's how it works:

Step 1

Create a Claude project and upload documents containing information about different facets of your life: your career journey, mental & emotional states, spiritual practices, relationships, and any other areas you want to explore.

Check out this post here on how to setup projects.

These documents serve as a comprehensive knowledge base about your life, accessible to the AI during your conversations.

Step 2

Using the Galactic Council prompt, you then engage with Claude as if you're consulting with a multidimensional life coach.

The AI can reference and synthesize information from your uploaded documents, allowing for a conversation that feels like an extension of your own mind.

It's as if you're having a dialogue with a version of yourself that has perfect recall of all the information you've provided.

This method allows for deep, interconnected discussions about your life.

You can explore how different areas influence each other, uncover hidden patterns, and gain insights that might not be apparent when considering each aspect in isolation.

The beauty of this approach is its flexibility and depth.

Take it Home With You

Here are the key ways you can use AI for self-reflection and personal growth:

  1. Turn poems into songs: Use AI music generators to transform your written emotions into audible experiences.

  2. Emotional inquiry: Let AI guide you with questions about your feelings, freeing you to focus on experiencing rather than analyzing emotions.

  3. Life reflection: Use AI prompts to explore your past experiences, decisions, and patterns, gaining insights to improve future choices.

  4. Galactic Council Method: Create an AI knowledge base of your life aspects for comprehensive, interconnected self-analysis.

Remember

AI is a tool to enhance, not replace, your self-reflection.

Start with one method that resonates with you and gradually explore others. The goal is deeper self-understanding and personal growth.
