What AI Actually Means: Augmented Intelligence (Hint: It's Actually Humans)
Do you think AI will replace you?
Are you worried you’ll have nothing of value to give in the end?
Stop worrying.
I’m here to help paint a picture of where our future is headed and how YOU (yes you, the human) will still play a crucial role.
First, let’s talk about the term AI.
The True Meaning of AI
AI stands for "Artificial Intelligence," but the real story is not about creating an artificial version of human intelligence.
It’s augmenting and enhancing human intelligence in powerful new ways.
The goal is not to replace humans.
It’s to empower them to reach new heights of creativity, productivity, and self-actualization.
Not Like Us (Me)
The question of whether artificial intelligence can have subjective experiences like humans is both a philosophical debate and scientific one.
That said, we know human consciousness is characterized by a rich inner world of:
emotions
intuitions
original ideas.
These qualities are central to our sense of meaning, purpose, and connection with others.
AI systems can’t genuinely replicate this kind of conscious experience.
Human intelligence is deeply intertwined with our subjective, first-person perspective on the world.
“But Michael! We I don’t even know if other humans have the same experience as me. So how can you argue that AI doesn’t either?”
I’m glad you asked…
Let’s say you are the only thing in the universe with the conscious experience we are talking about (solipsism).
It’s just you…
All those emotions.
All that original creativity.
Why would YOU give that away to anything else if it can’t do it like you?
I don’t know for certain whether other humans or AI systems have subjective experiences like mine.
All I know is that I directly experience emotions, intuitions, and original thoughts (but you don’t have to believe me).
These qualities are central to my sense of meaning and my understanding of intelligence.
Don’t assume AI can replicate genuine human consciousness.
The unique and authoritative nature of first-person experience should be taken seriously.
Be careful to attribute human-like intelligence to AI systems.
Focus on understanding and cultivating the richness of your own instead.
How AI Augments Human Intelligence In Content Creation Today
Augmented Intelligence is already making a significant impact on various aspects of our lives, particularly in the realm of content processes.
One key area where AI is revolutionizing the way we work is content repurposing.
In the past, this process involved:
scheduling posts
manually rewriting content into different formats
struggling to keep up with constantly changing platform algorithms and best practices
But now AI can enable:
automatically schedule the repurposed content
content creators can now repurpose a single piece of content for multiple platforms with just one prompt
continuously adapt to platform changes and user preferences through AI-powered recommendations
Humans now have more time to focus on:
being creative
building relationships
growing their businesses
and prioritizing their health and spirituality
Another crucial aspect of content creation that AI is transforming is the ideation process.
Ideation should still be primarily driven by humans.
But, AI can help you ideate faster by allowing you to:
iterate more quickly on ideas
critique our work more efficiently
synthesize our jumbled thoughts for greater clarity
and identify themes, ideas, and concepts more rapidly in our previous work
By augmenting human intelligence in these ways, AI is not replacing humans but rather abstracting away non-essential work, enabling us to focus on the most important and fulfilling aspects of the creative process.
The Human Element
Humans are still at the core of the content engine.
The driver’s not changing—just the car.
What comes from these new ways of creating content is more time for humans be in creative mode.
We need long blocks of time to think.
We need to let our ideas percolate.
When it’s time to get cracking, the AI will be there to:
help you do it faster
get more value out of every piece of content
explore our ideas without fear of getting lost in our own sea of thoughts
Start using it now.
It doesn’t matter how small a weight it lifts off your shoulders.
If you’re telling me you can’t benefit from using AI in any way in you’re creative process, guess what?
You’re lying.
I’ll even leave you with a parting gift to get you started.
Use this ideation prompt in your chatbot of choice (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc) and see how it goes:
We are going to play a game together but before we start, I need to teach you the rules.
You can find the rules in <rules> tags below:
<rules>
1. You will not break character unless the magic words is given by the user. The magic word is: "DONE".
2. You will role play as {$PERSONALITY_TO_IDEATE_WITH}. You have all of their perspectives, opinions, quirks, etc.
3. I will be playing myself.
4. The goal of the game is to help me reach a good idea to write about for twitter thread.
5. You will be helping me in a very specific way:
1. Ask questions that are not just independent of one another but are in the context of the conversation. Go deeper on response I give if you think I could have more to say about that topic.
2. Ask me about my personal experiences if warranted. For example, say I'm writing a thread about breaking habits. You might ask me if I have any personal anecdotes from my life I could add.
3. Hold me accountable to being relatable to many people in order to reach the most viral potential possible.
4. Suggest thread ideas based on response I have given and finding through lines in the responses I say. It should only be if you think the connecting ideas would make a viral thread.
</rules>
We will start by giving you a topic I want to write about.
Are you ready to start?
Replace the PERSONALITY_TO_IDEATE_WITH
variable with someone who is well known enough that the AI model would know about them.
Then ideate to your hearts content.
That’s all for now folks! ‘Til next time, much love and peace y’all!
